Red Raiders Compete at John Higgins Invitational

LEXINGTON--The John Higgins Invitational is one of the premier High School wrestling tournaments in Nebraska, and the Sidney Red Raider wrestlers traveled to Lexington over the past weekend to compete against the very best wrestlers in the area.

At the end of the day, the Sidney boys Varsity Squad earned 15th place with 52 points. The Red Raiders had two outstanding performances in the boys Varsity division, with senior Patrick McCartney taking gold in the 190 lb weight class after a dominating 7-to-1 decision over Bennigton's Dalton Rhoten in the finals. Freshman Cayson Boltjes continued his impressive debut season for Sidney by shrugging off an early loss and battling his way to a third place finish in the 215 lb division.

For the Lady Raider wrestlers, the girls also ended their day with a 15th place finish with 28 points. Senior Saphira Whitley secured fourth place honors after losing to Lexington's Hadlie Wolf in the third-place match. Senior Leeann Mulleavey also earned a fourth place finish after losing her final match to McCook's Kayleigh Steinbeck.
