Peetz Rolls Past Arickaree and Haxtun

The Peetz Bulldog Boys Basketball team continued their strong showing this season with two big home wins, the first on January 15 and the second on January 17. On January 15, the Bulldogs hosted the Arickaree Bison, and the teams had a tough battle in a low-scoring first quarter that had Arickaree earning a one point advantage at the end of the period, 12-to-11. But Arickaree got their offense in gear in the second quarter, and outscored the Bulldogs 21-to-16 to take a 33-to-27 lead at the halftime break. The Peetz defense smothered the Bison in the third quarter, only giving up 6 points while putting up 22 points of their own to take the lead by the end of the third period. Peetz cruised through the fourth quarter and outscored Arickaree again, and earned the 68-to-53 win. Junior Rhyder Bayne and sophomore Connor Schumacher each had 24 points in the win, and both were outstanding on defense with six steals each.

On January 17, the Bulldogs hosted the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs, and again the home team had a slow start, with Haxtun leading 12-to-8 at the end of the first quarter. Peetz bounced back in the second quarter, putting up 17 points to go into the break with a 25-to-24 lead. The third quarter was a battle with the teams matching scores, and Peetz ended the period with a two-point lead 43-to-41. Peetz took care of business in the fourth quarter, scoring well while slowing down the Haxtun attack. The visitors could not overcome the deficit, and Peetz took the win by a final score of 63-to-54. Schumacher was dominant in this contest, scoring 37 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing 4 assists in the win. The Bulldogs move their record to 9-and-2 on the season, and were scheduled to travel to Prairie for a matchup with the Mustangs on Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs struggled in both contests, dropping their game to Arickaree by a score of 51-to-12 and to Haxtun by a score of 56-to-20. The girls stand at 2-and-9 for the season, with their wins coming against Nebraska teams Banner County and Creek Valley.
