Coyotes Tame Tigers; Fall to Blue Knights

POTTER--The Potter-Dix Coyote Boy’s Basketball team is another team in the panhandle that should have a better record this far in the season. Loaded with talent like junior Landon Gasseling and junior Dylan Tabor, this is another team that just needs to get settled and play together better. They have the athletes and the coaching is there, it just seems that a combination of bad luck, bad timing on their schedule, and a few losses that could and should have been wins, have kept the Coyotes from being where they should be.

The last two games are typical of the Coyote’s season to this point. On January 10, the Coyotes traveled to Bayard to match up with the one-win Bayard Tigers. Bayard’s win came against a winless Banner County team. Yet the Coyotes struggled in this contest, letting the Bayard squad hang around and keep pace while this game should have been a decisive victory for the Coyotes. The Potter-Dix squad was able to get the 13-point victory by a score of 63-to-50, but this game should not have been this close. Gasseling put up 25 points in the victory.

On January 11, the Coyotes hosted South Platte in a game against what seemed to be two very evenly matched teams. However, the game did not play out that way as the Blue Knights were able to walk away with a comfortable 19-point win, 53-to-34. Potter-Dix’s inability to score has cost them in a number of games, where their inability to get over 40 points or just hover around that mark has been the difference in the game. Sophomore Trenton Hickman led the scoring with 8 points, with the team just shooting 24% from the field.

Potter-Dix had scheduled a tough match-up with Kimball on Tuesday, January 14, and then will have a battle in Dalton against Leyton on Friday, January 17.
