DENNIS FRANKLIN MARSHALL

Dennis Franklin Marshall, of Fleming, a dedicated Nebraska Football Fan (GO BIG RED!!), passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the age of 72. A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18 at Sterling Foursquare Church.

In honor of Dennis, the family is asking those attending the celebration to please wear

their favorite Nebraska attire or red and black clothing.Dennis was born in San Diego, California at Balboa Naval Hospital to Dale and Edna Marshall. When Dennis was three,

his family moved to Bayard, Nebraska and then eventually settled in Sidney, Nebraska when he was four years old. This is when the Nebraska Husker transformation began!

Dennis attended Sidney Public Schools. He eventually became a Sidney Red Raider and earned his high school diploma in 1970. GBR!!

Dennis thrived, experiencing all those good things of childhood in that era that many of us miss. Those were the good times that taught him lessons of hard work and dependability, which describes him perfectly.

At age 14, his first job was at the Silver Dollar and then at Silver Spurs as a dishwasher. At age 16, he started chasing his true passion and began working for Steele Oil Field Service in Sidney. He became very skilled and also worked for several outfits. Dennis worked in the wire field for a while, and then as a welding fabricator, building potato harvesters and grain trailers. The Husker was a dedicated worker and made a reputation as such.

It was at age 25 that he secured a position with Baney Well Service as an operator. He worked there for several years. But at age 34, he began a position with Walsh Production where he would earn the title of supervisor. He stayed with Walsh for 23 years until the sale of the company but stayed with the new owners until his retirement in 2014.

In 1971, he married Judy Roth and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Jeremy, Chad, and Nate. God was good but the pressures of life strained the relationship. The marriage ended in 1985. But God had a different plan for the Big Red Fan.

Dennis met Deborah Ryan, from scanning the want-ads (yes, really!) in the local newspaper. They started dating in January of 1986. It was meant to be, moving their love very quickly to the next level. They were married on May 30, 1987, and made a wonderful loving life together. They would, together, forever, shout GBR!

Dennis gained a stepson in the marriage, Spencer, which meant his three boys gained a stepbrother, so the boy count was now up to four. The relationship eventually added another son, Adam.

God’s plan was now complete.

Dennis enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Elks, and lifetime member of the NRA, and a DEVOTED Republican. He spent much of his free time watching Fox News. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his boys in sports and whatever they experienced. Did we mention he was a Big Red fan?

Dennis and Deb took several vacations to Mexico and Hawaii, creating incredible memories. But Dennis most loved spending time with family. He loved going to Texas to see his sons and three grandsons. He understood how grandchildren take love to a new level. He cherished them as his true blessing from God.

If you knew him, you knew that Dennis enjoyed his shop. He was well-known for his barbecue skills and tinkering. He would set up the chairs in the shop, throw on a brisket and spend time with his loved ones. He would open the big door, get the smoke rolling and turn up the music. Friends and loved ones would gather to what is now known as “shop talk.”

GO BIG RED!!!! Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Edna, his brother Terry, and his stepson Spencer.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Deborah; his sons, Jeremy and wife Ashley and their son Trevor; Chad and his wife Amy; Nate and his wife LeeAnne and their sons Adrian, Jackson, and Noah; and Adam and special friend Alex. He is also survived by his brother Keith and wife Charlotte, brother Tracy, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind several special friends and family, but wanted to especially recognize his good friends, Deb and Mark Tryboski. As a final request, Dennis would like for you to dedicate some of your time watching Fox News, and for some of his relatives, it must NOT be muted. You can substitute this time watching Nebraska Football instead. GBR!!
