Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Fresh off the heels of a successful 31st season, Way Out West is now opening the doors to all creatives and carpenters for auditions to its latest show, Harvey.
Set in the mid 1940’s, Elwood P. Dowd believes in inviting his friend Harvey to all of his sister’s lavish social functions. The problem being, Harvey is a six-and-a-half-foot tall imaginary white rabbit that only Elwood can see. After Elwood’s sister attempts to have him institutionalized, chaos and comedy erupt. Originally written by Mary Chase in 1944, this classic telling is sure to delight both audience and performer with a few modern twists and turns.
“Some may think there’s not much to relate to an 80 year old show,” Kelsey Arrington, director of Harvey mentions, “But the hilarity and absurdity of the script provides a bridge to a more common ground relatable to current audiences.”
Auditions are open to all ages with 16+ being recommended for roles and 14+ suggested for backstage and tech work. Auditions will be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge, 1040 Jackson Street, on Tuesday, January 7 and Friday, January 10, 2024 at 6:30 pm both evenings. Rehearsals will tentatively take place Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with potential Sunday read- throughs as well.
