Larry was born on August 2, 1947 in Sidney,
NE to Beverly A (Block) and Burl Wendt.
Larry was later adopted at age 4 by Reynold
"Andy" Gorman. He would later be joined
by siblings Dale and Rolanda. Larry attended
Sidney High School and graduated in 1965.
During high school, Larry was involved in
Band, Pep Band, and D.E. Club. He achieved
first chair in band playing the trumpet. He
got the privilege to play in Mexico City to
perform with the Sidney High School band.
Larry would also be asked to play "Taps" at
military services.
Larry started working for Dude's Steakhouse
at the age 14 as a dishwasher. Right after high
school, Larry moved to Wyoming to live with
his aunt and uncle to work the oil rigs. He
moved back to Sidney a few years later and
returned to work at Dude's. His hard work
and perseverance would prove beneficial as
he would become kitchen manager, butcher
and head chef. His expertise in cutting meat
shocked even the best of butchers. During
his time at Dude's, he became co-owner of
Dude's Steakhouse, Bar & Lounge, Inc.
While attending high school and working
for Dude's, Larry meet the love of his life and
soul mate Patty Sue Jelinek. Shortly after high
school, Larry and Patty had a baby boy, Eric,
who they put up for adoption.
They were united in marriage on June 15,
1974, in her parents' backyard. In 1978,
Larry and Patty were blessed with a baby
girl, Jennifer. 3 months later, they moved to
Bakersfield, CA for a short time. They moved
back to Sidney a year later, where they were
blessed again with a baby boy, Joseph (Joey).
Even being very involved with
the family business, he still made
time to do things with his kids.
Family was very important to him
and instilled those values. Even
though he liked to enjoy life, he
was avid about keeping fit and
a healthy lifestyle. And because
of this, he was a force to reckon
with and was a spitting image of
professional wrestler Hulk Hogan.
For those who knew him, he was
truly one of a kind with a personality that
would make your jaw drop and make you
never forget the time you had with Larry,
good or bad. When you think you've heard
all of Larry's stories, someone walks in with
another.
Larry was passionate about music and a
huge fan of rock-n-roll, from Pink Floyd to
the Bee Gees, to even ABBA. But his favorite
was Pink Floyd. A huge animal lover, and
adored his puppies, or as he liked to call
them his "coyotes". We would call him the
"Dog-Father". He had a "green thumb" when
it came to plants and always nurturing his
yard. He was a boy scout at heart and could
tie any knot. Enjoyed being outside and quite
an adventurer in collecting rocks and crystals
to where we called him "Mr. Nature". He
loved westerns, young and old, especially
Gunsmoke. He could reminisce about all
the older actors because he knew who they
were. He adored his grandkids and could not
get enough of being a grandpa.
After the passing of Patty, Larry missed her
so much he couldn't get over the thought of
losing her. Patty was his soul mate that people
only strive to find. Had very few complaints
or regrets and lived a good life.
He is survived by his children: Jennifer
