Shooting Shocks Sidney

SIDNEY--On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office personnel and Emergency Medical providers were dispatched at 10:06 am to 1430 County Road 109, just south of Sidney, to respond to a call concerning shots fired. When first responders arrived at the scene, a 70-year-old man, Bruce Brauer, was identified as the victim and was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. When emergency services personnel arrived, Vicky Brauer, Bruce Brauer’s ex-wife, was administering CPR to the victim. Her son Nicholas Brauer was also present and was identified as the shooter.

Emergency medical workers took over from Vicky Brauer and tried to revive Bruce Brauer. They worked on the victim for about 50 minutes but were unable to revive him. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, November 27. The Cheyenne County Attorney’s office is conducting an investigation of the incident, and the Sun-Telegraph will be provided with additional details once the investigation is completed. Currently, no one has been taken into custody and preliminary indications suggest the shooting was done in self-defense.

Agencies responding to the scene included the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, Sidney Volunteer Fire Department, Sidney Regional Medical Center Ambulance Emergency Medical Services, and Regional West Medical Center AirLink.
