Delta Dawn When the Light Comes On: Week 48

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise, for the Lord is good!" Psalm 100:4.  Kansas' Great Depression Dust Bowl (no rain for 7 years), put the USA on the brink of ruin and war was looming large.  Metro-Goldwyn-Mayor sought to ignite hope in fainting hearts, creating the "Wizard of Oz" movie. 1939.  Dorothy Gale was the niece of Aunty Em and Uncle Henry.  Aunty Em takes charge of three hired men on their Kansas hog farm while Uncle Henry says very little to them or to Dorothy's conduct, which is not, always, stellar.  Trouble comes when Toto, her beloved little dog, nips at an evil old neighbor.

Mrs. Gulch becomes the Wicked Witch of the West in the OZ movie. She goes to the sheriff to have Toto eliminated.  She puts him in a basket on her bicycle and heads out.  Toto (representative of Holy Spirit) escapes.  Dorothy grabs Toto, packs a bag and leaves to join the circus. A Genie sees, in his crystal ball, that Aunty Em is very upset, crying, clutching her heart and falling across the bed.

Dorothy rushes homeward as a tornado gains strength.  Everyone at the farm looks for her.  Not finding her, they descend into an underground storm shelter and close the door.  The noise is so great they don't hear Dorothy knocking.  She goes to the house where a window crashes onto her and she dreams of the wicked witch on her bicycle, shouting threats, pedaling lies of deception and destruction.

The house lands with a thud.  Dorothy cautiously opens the front door.  The movie bursts into full color!   This is NOT Kansas!  Here, flowers and trees bloom.  She hears little voices.  A bright bubble descends.  Glinda the Good Witch steps out.  Finding Dorothy not a witch, many little people come out of hiding.  The house has crushed the evil witch of the east who, as an 'Angel of Light', has held little people (forgotten ones) in bondage and abuse for years.  Celebration brings her sister, the wicked witch of the west, to take from the dead witch's feet a pair of ruby slippers.  Glinda waves her wand transferring the slippers to Dorothy's feet!  The witches shrivel away.  Wealth transfer happens! Proverbs 10:22

Munchkin County is filled with singing, dancing and parading. The wicked witch (of the east) is dead!  Munchkins encourage one another to step higher and dream bigger. Dorothy is encouraged to follow the yellow bricks of joy, prosperity, compassion, earnest expectation, like-mindedness and cooperation. Genesis 11.

A storm had blown the little ship, Mayflower, 250 miles off course.  She bumped up against Plymouth Rock, November 11, 1620.  My Great Grandfather, William Bradford, set his foot down on incalculable wealth – the New World.   Elected Governor for the next 30 years, he trusted God would guide and direct the use of this unimaginable wealth entrusted to Pilgrims by God's Hand.  "Let men so consider us servants of Christ and to be found faithful stewards of His mysteries."  I Corinthians 4:1, 2
