Sidney Cross Country Competes at State Meet

KEARNEY--After a successful District meet, the Sidney Cross Country girls team moved on to the State Meet at Kearney on October 25 and 26, 2024. Although the Sidney team finished fifteenth out of fifteen teams competing, Head Coach Donna Wiedeburg said that the result wasn’t as important as the growth the younger runners experienced this season, and the fact that three girls set new Personal Records on the state course.

With a lot of new athletes joining the team this year, despite some outstanding performances, the Red Raiders were not able to overachieve and bring home medals. However, the experience was great and will help this young group of runners get stronger and be more competitive next year.

The Sidney girls who competed at state with their finishing times were:

Junior Rayah Wolff, 22:04

Sophomore Kylee Kampf, 22:55

Freshman Lyrah Ogden, 22:55.33

Sophomore Emily Bashtovoi, 24:00.27

Junior Katie Dowse, 23:44.36

Junior Kennedy Hobson, 23:41.54

Weideburg said that the past year has been a learning experience and that the cross country team is a family, and will come back next year stronger than ever.
