Sweep Lady Titans, Advance to NSAA Tournament
KEARNEY--The Leyton Lady Warriors' historic season continued on Saturday, November 2, 2024, with a D2-2 District Final victory at Kearney Catholic High School. The number 2 seeded lady Warriors were matched against the number 15 seed Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer at the neutral site.
After a surprisingly close opening, the Lady Warriors were able to string together the final points and take the first set 25-to-22. Leyton ramped it up in the second set and used their court coverage on defense and their ability to hit all spots on the court on offense to put away the Lady Titans 25-to-15 in the second set. The Leyton girls kept up the momentum in the third set and left no doubt about which team deserved to move on, taking the final set 25-to-7 for the 3-to-0 sweep.
After the match, Head Coach Natasha Haupt said, "All the girls were in a very good place going into Saturday's game vs Humboldt- Table Rock- Steinauer. They were rested, relaxed and ready to play. We competitively respect every team we play and the girls have learned how to turn pre-game anxiety and nervousness into focus and determination. It helps keep them calm and grounded for the game, no matter what's going on from point to point."
Next up, the Lady Warriors travel to Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln for their first-round match against Meridian on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The Lady Warriors enter the tournament as the number 1 seed and face number 8 Meridian on the North Court at 9 am CT/ 8 am MT.
For the matchup with Meridian, Haupt said, "At this level, every team you meet will be strong competition and Meridian will be no different. For our girls, it's about playing their game. We don't focus on things outside of our control. We focus on doing your job, helping your team, and staying positive. When we miss one, we get the next one, it's as simple as that. They love doing what they do and it shows. "
