Fischer wins U.S. Senate, Strommen takes Legislative Seat, Smith re-elected, Kuhns elected to City Council, Radcliff keeps seat
CHEYENNE COUNTY--Initial results are in on several local political contests that have been closely watched by citizens in the city of Sidney and Cheyenne County.
Sidney City Council had four candidates involved in the balloting, and two incumbents were running against two challengers. Councilmen Burk Radcliff and Brock Buckner were looking to retain their seats, while challengers Brian Fort and Rob Kuhns were looking to get on the council for the first time. District 47's Legislative Seat pitted Sidney Vice-Mayor Paul Strommen against Larry L.S. Bollinger.
There were local School Board elections in Sidney, Leyton, Creek Valley, and Potter-Dix school districts.
The various Cheyenne County Villages held elections on Tuesday.
An unexpectedly tight and hard-fought campaign between incumbent U.S. Senator Deb Fisher (R-NE) and Independent challenger Dan Osborn.
U.S. special Senate election to complete the term of Ben Sasse, who resigned from the Senate in January of 2023, pitted Pete Ricketts, currently serving Sasse's term as appointed by Gov. Pillen, and Democratic candidate Preston Love, Jr.
Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) of District 3 was challenged for his Congressional seat by Democratic candidate Daniel Ebers.
As of the time of printing, City Council Incumbent Burke Radcliff retained his seat for the City of Sidney Council, netting 1216 votes after 10 out of 10 precincts reported their totals on Tuesday night. Robert J. Kuhns earned the second most votes with 1,172, followed by Brian Fort with 1049 votes, and incumbent Brock Buckner, Sr. received 787. The top two candidates will take seats on the City council.
Sidney City Councilman and Vice-Mayor Paul Strommen won a seat in the Nebraska Legislature with a big win over Larry S. Bolinger, with Strommen earning 3100 votes to Bolinger's 653.
Three seats on the Sidney School Board were up for grabs tbis election, and Amber Talich earned the most votes with 2167. She was followed by Brad Kennedy, who gathered 2,113. Kevin Challburg received 1,631 votes, and Caleb Jones came in last with 739. Talich, Kennedy, and Challburg will now occupy seats on the Sidney School Board.
For the Village of Lodgepole Board of Trustees, Susan Mitchell received 112 votes, Alan C. Runge - 96 votes, Gwen T. Devie - 67 votes and Eric L. Dana had 78 votes, while R. J. Savely Jr. received 25 votes.
In the Potter Village Board race, Melanie Rotert received 109 votes, followed by Jerry Deines with 91, Edward Revord with 116, and Alisha Juelfs with 113 votes.

Protect Women and Children Constitutional Amendment
This measure would amend the Nebraska Constitution to provide that except when a woman seeks an abortion necessitated by a medical emergency or when the pregnancy results from sexual assault or incest, unborn children shall be protected from abortion in the second and third trimesters. PASSED

This measure seeks to establish a statute providing paid sick time for personal or family leave, for employers with both more than twenty employees and less than twenty employees. PASSED
Initiative Measure 437
Medical Cannabis Patient Protection Initiative
This initiative would enact the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Patient Protection Act. The act would legalize the use of up to five ounces of marijuana for medical purposes by qualified patients. PASSED
Initiative Measure 438
Medical Cannabis Regulation Initiative
This initiative would legalize possession, manufacturing, distribution, delivery, and dispensing of marijuana for medical purposes. It would establish the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to regulate and provide the necessary registration for the medical marijuana program. PASSED
Initiative Measure 439
Protect the Right to Abortion Constitutional Amendment
The measure would amend Article I of the Nebraska Constitution to add a new section providing a right to abortion until fetal viability. TOO CLOSE TO CALL
