Cheyenne County District Court's Mindy Wiegand Honored with Nebraska Judicial Branch's Highest Distinction: Outstanding Clerk of the District Court Award

The Nebraska Judicial Branch is proud to announce that Mindy Wiegand, Cheyenne County District Court Clerk, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Clerk of the District Court award. Presented by the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court, this award represents the highest honor available within the Nebraska Judicial Branch.

Wiegand was chosen for her exceptional commitment to modernizing court operations and for embracing innovative technological advances, particularly in the post-COVID landscape. Leading her team with vision and adaptability, Wiegand has fostered significant improvements in communication and document management. By implementing Google Chat and other applications, she has improved communication with court staff, allowing for more immediate responses to court needs and user requests. Her vision of a paperless office has set a new benchmark statewide; her court is among the first in Nebraska to manage nearly all operations digitally. Wiegand guided her team through the transition by beta testing a selection of files and then incrementally expanding the program, addressing issues as they arose to maintain a seamless workflow.

Upon receiving news of her selection, Wiegand expressed both surprise and gratitude: " I am so humbled and honored. I am fortunate enough to work with so many amazing Clerks of the District Court across the State, and so many of them are deserving of this award.”

Wiegand credited her team, including Shelly Jackson and Joelyann Saucedo, stating, “They share my dreams and passion for the work we do. They carry the weight and responsibility effortlessly. They are truly a dream team, and they share in this recognition as much as I do.”

She also extended thanks to Judge Derek Weimer for encouraging her innovative ideas, acknowledging that he “is a champion of all who serve in the judicial branch,” and to Court Reporter Lynn Namuth, Cheyenne County Court staff, and Judge Randin Roland, with whom she shares a close working relationship. Additionally, Wiegand recognized administrative office liaison Valorie Bendixen for her guidance and expertise, and expressed deep appreciation for the clerks across the state, noting that “your leadership, wisdom, and experience is invaluable.”

In closing, Wiegand thanked her husband, children, and family for their unwavering support. “I am proud to serve for the judicial branch in Nebraska. I am grateful for the teamwork, cooperation, and commitment to excellence we all share.”
