St. Patrick's Annual Fall Festival once again offering food, fun, and fellowship for the whole family

SIDNEY--The leaves are falling, people are preparing to turn back their clocks, and it's time for the Fall Festival at St. Patrick's Church in Sidney. This annual event goes back well over 50 years and is always a highlight of the autumn season. As always, it will be another great opportunity to see old friends, catch up on community tidbits, and cross your fingers as you hope to hear your name as the winner of a spectacular prize in the raffle. The grand prize for the 2024 festival is an outdoor pizza oven, valued at over $600, donated by The Knights of Columbus. The games and fun with members of the parish as well others in the Cheyenne County Community are always a hit, but as everyone knows, it's the turkey dinner that brings them in.

On Sunday, November 3, the festivities will start at 11 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m. The love and dedication behind the scenes of this annual feast can not go unnoticed. Preparation begins early, with pounds upon pounds of cabbage being shredded and turned into a slaw that earns high marks for its flavor and texture. Then twenty, 20-pound turkeys are roasted to golden perfection, as potatoes are peeled, and stuffing is lovingly created from scratch. That rich, dark gravy that some may take for granted is started from original bone broth and turkey juices at five o'clock in the morning. Homemade pies will round out the meal as well as your tummy. Volunteers from the entire community help pull off this once-a-year, much-anticipated masterpiece.

Once you've eaten your fill, the activities and fun to enjoy are plentiful. Door prizes will be announced once an hour, there is a cake walk, bingo, and a silent auction with many items donated by local people and places of business. The highlight of the afternoon is the raffle where a few lucky winners will go home with prizes like the outdoor pizza oven, a $250 gift certificate from Sonny's Superfoods, a gas BBQ grill, a $250 gift card from The Flooring Garage, or some lovely wall art donated by Sutton Home Gallery.

The cost for an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship is only $10 for adults, $8 for Seniors, and kids ages 4-12 are just $5. There is an additional $2 per meal if you will order ahead "to-go".

People from absolutely all faiths and walks of life are warmly welcomed to this celebration of community. For more information or to be part of the event, contact the Parish Office at 308-254-2828.
