Strong Fourth Quarter Powers Leyton Over South Platte

BIG SPRINGS--A third-quarter touchdown and a strong finish by the Warriors powered the Leyton squad to a 46-to-38 victory over South Platte on Thursday, October 17, 2024. After a tough first quarter between the teams, South Platte held an 8-to-6 lead due to a converted two-point extra-point attempt. The offenses on both sides had more success in the second quarter with both teams scoring two touchdowns, and the score was 22-to-19, in favor of the hosts, at the halftime intermission.

Leyton's defense regrouped and stopped the Blue Knight's offense and scored a touchdown to take a 26-to-22 lead going into the fourth quarter. South Platte got their offense back on track and scored two touchdowns with a pair of two-point conversions, but Leyton was able to reach the end zone three times in the final quarter to pull away for the 46-to-38 win.

Junior Alec Watchorn was outstanding again for the Warriors, completing 11 of 14 passes for 187 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 17 times for 169 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Hunter Borges also ran for a touchdown in the win. Sophomore Austin Beutler had two touchdown receptions in the victory, and Borges and junior Kaleb Miller each had a touchdown reception. Junior Jeremiah Hajek led the defense with 17 total tackles. Watchorn, Beutler, and sophomore Calvin Borgmann each had interceptions in the victory.

Leyton hosts the 0-and-6 Banner County Wildcats for their final game of the regular season on Friday. It's scheduled as an afternoon game, with a 2 p.m. kick-off time.
