Coyotes Crash Creek Valley Homecoming

CHAPPELL--Thursday, October 17 had the Lady Storm Volleyball and Storm Football teams host visiting rival Potter-Dix for Homecoming matchups, and in both contests, it was the Coyote teams that played the role of spoiler to the Homecoming crowds.

The evening started with a volleyball match pitting the Lady Storm against the Lady Coyotes, and although the Lady Coyotes have been having a more successful season than the Lady Storm, there was still a chance the Creek Valley girls could pull off a win in front of the Homecoming crowd. The Lady Storm were wearing their "Pink Out" uniforms to raise awareness for breast cancer, and the homecoming crowd was fired up for a good showing by the Creek Valley girls. But it was not to be, as the Lady Coyotes were in control in every set, and pulled away for the straight-set victory, 25-to-12, 25-to-12, and 25-to-19. For the Lady Storm, sophomore Catherine Tilghman led the offense with six kills and senior Ava Fraass had two blocks in the match. Senior Karsyn Burgman did a great job setting with 14 assists in the loss.

After the volleyball match was over, the Creek Valley faithful hoped they would have better luck on the gridiron, but the visiting Coyotes had other plans for their hosts. The Coyotes were able to score on 11 of their 12 drives on offense and included a score on defense with an interception return for a touchdown by freshman Dominic Christensen. Potter-Dix junior standout Dylan Tabor led the offense rushing the ball five times for 85 yards and going three-for-four passing for 110 yards. He rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns in the win. Junior Kolby Labeau and sophomore Tyler McManigal each had a touchdown run. Junior Landon Gasseling had two touchdown receptions while Labeau and junior Kyle Lenstrom each had a touchdown catch in the win.

For Creek Valley, standout Zander Polk had a short night, rushing just three times for seven yards before leaving the game in the first quarter due to injury. Sophomore Luke Fletcher did the most work at quarterback, completing six of 19 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Lane Brenneman rushed 16 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns, and juniors Mason Timm and Alvin Russell each had a touchdown catch in the loss.

Creek Valley will finish its season at Oshkosh as they take on the Garden County Eagles on Friday with a 7 p.m. Kickoff. Potter-Dix finishes their regular season in Big Springs Friday night with a 7 p.m. Match up against South Platte.
