CARL HOUSTON FARMER

Carl Farmer, Jr., age 88, of Sidney, NE passed away at Sidney Regional Medical Center on Monday, October 14, 2024. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Faith Methodist Church in Sidney, NE with Pastor Corey Jenkins and Bud Gillespie officiating. Burial followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for future designation.

Carl H. Farmer Jr., the son and third child of Carl and Violet (Delve) Farmer, was born in Denver, Colorado on August 18, 1936. Carl spent his early years in Colorado, Wyoming, and North Dakota. He attended schools in Colorado until the family moved to the Sioux Ordnance Depot near Sidney in March 1944, where he continued to live until graduating from Sidney High School in 1954.

In September of 1957, he married Barbara Hohman of Weissert, NE. Three children were born of this marriage: Vi, Anthony and Pamela. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served for eight and a half years. During his assignment in Taiwan, Carl received the Air Force Commendation Medal of meritorious service.

In September of 1983, Carl married Jan (Jarred) Whatley. He returned to Nebraska with Jan in 1985, where he worked with the Kimball County Sheriff's Office, the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office and the City of Sidney until he retired in 2015.

In May of 2023, Carl married Lois (Roos) Hart. They made many good memories together despite their short time together.

Carl was an avid Studebaker enthusiast. He was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club (SDC), and helped establish SDC chapters in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. During that time, Carl could recall owning at least eighteen Studebakers.

Carl enjoyed music and sang in various church choirs. He was proud to be a charter member of the Fort Sidney Colonels in 1956. After returning to Nebraska, Carl rejoined the Colonels and sang with them until the choir was disbanded.

Carl is survived by his wife Lois Farmer, his two daughters Vi Garcia of Denver, CO, and Pamela and husband Kevin Hinrichs of Brighton, CO, and son Anthony and wife Sue Farmer of Rye, NH; three stepdaughters Tina Nadeau of Yuma, AZ, Julie and husband Sam Peinado of Cedar City, UT, and Kathy Stevens of Sidney, NE; stepsons Scott and wife Meg Nadeau of Torrington, WY, and Doug and wife Rita Hart of Sidney, NE. He is also survived by his brother Marvin and wife Barbi Farmer of Northfield, MN and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Violet (Delve) Farmer; stepmother Pearl (Farrell) Farmer; sisters Wanda Kaduk, Carletta Burton and Beverly Nightingale; brother Duane; wife Jan (Jarred) Farmer; stepson Mike Hart and Barbara (Hohman) Grosse-Rhode.
