Sheaman Celebrates 100th Birthday

Well-Wishers Gather at Masonic Lodge to Mark Milestone

SIDNEY--October 19, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the history of residents who've made a great impact on the development of Sidney. The date was the 100th birthday of Paul Sheaman, a lifelong Sidney resident and prominent member of the community who has contributed so much to the history of our town. A big group of well-wishers gathered at the Masonic Lodge Saturday afternoon to honor the man on his birthday and to reminisce and share coffee and cake with his family and loved ones.

Mike Sheaman, Paul's son, told the Sun-Telegraph, "he's seen so many changes in Sidney throughout the years, from the town being a small railroad stop to growing into a thriving and busy center of commerce in Western Nebraska. He's been a member of the Frank Welch Masonic Lodge for 70 years, and he was a teacher working in the Sidney Public School system for 40 years. Just about everyone who grew up and lived in Sidney over the past 100 years knows my Dad."

During the celebration, many well-wishers greeted Paul and wished him a happy birthday. There were many former students, now senior citizens themselves, who spoke to him and told him how he was one of their teachers and how fondly they remember him. For 100 years, Paul Sheaman has been one of the pillars of the Sidney community, and his contributions have greatly impacted the education and well-being of citizens of Sidney. We at the Sun-Telegraph wish him well and hope he has many more birthdays to come.
