Leyton Falls Short Against Garden County, 83-49

OSHKOSH--The Leyton Warriors have been quite successful in their inaugural season in 6-Man Football, but they had a big challenge ahead of them on October 10 as they traveled to Oshkosh to match up against a strong Garden County team for their Homecoming game.

Garden County scored first with a rushing touchdown, but Leyton fired right back with a passing touchdown to move the score 8-to-6 in Garden County's favor. The teams continued to match scores through the first half, but Leyton's inability to convert on extra-point attempts had them falling behind. Late in the first half, Garden County scored two times without a Leyton response to open a 50-to-30 lead. In the final minute, Leyton scored to narrow the gap to 50-to-36, but a last-second touchdown before the half increased the Eagles' lead to 58-to-36 at the half.

Garden County did a great job tightening their defense in the second half and pulled away without Leyton matching them score for score. The final result was an 83-to-49 win for the home team, with Leyton just running out of firepower in the second half to mount a comeback.

Junior quarterback Alec Watchorn was the bulk of the offense for the Warriors, completing eight of 11 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns and rushing 12 times for 135 yards and four touchdowns in the loss. Junior Kaleb Miller reeled in two touchdown catches and sophomore Austin Beutler grabbed a touchdown catch in the defeat. Sophomore Hunter Borges returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Leyton looks to get back on the winning side of the ledger with a Thursday night match-up against South Platte in Big Springs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
