Lady Raider Golfers Battle at State Tournament

GERING--The total number of days seemed short, but there was a lot of activity in the few short months of the Girls Golf season. Wrapping up the season before the first snow comes on is a priority, so the golf team is always one of the first sports to have their State Tournament, and this year, the Sidney Lady Raiders travelled up to Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering for the B-1 Championships.

Led by senior Claire Jordan, the Lady Raiders have had a competitive year, starting off the season by taking the Sidney Invite title. They have had constant improvement as the season progressed, and the team qualified for the State Tournament.

At the end of the first day's round, the Sidney girls are in thick of the competition with a team score of 393. They are facing some of the toughest schools on Nebraska like Omaha Duchesne Academy, Elkhorn North, and Norris, and holding their own. Senior Claire Jordan leads the Sidney girls with a first round of 92 and is in 13th place. Senior Jordan DeNovellis also had a good first round, ending the day with a 98, tied for 25th place. Junior Josette McConnell is tied for 29th place, ending the first round with a 100. Junior Aubrey Campbell ended her round with a 103, putting her in 49th place, and senior Katie Raffleson is tied for 50th with a round of 105.

The second day of competition will be crucial to see what team takes the title, and which individuals take home medals. We will have the final results for the Lady Raiders in next week's Sun-Telegraph.
