Lady Warriors Run Through Schedule to 19-0

DALTON--There were some questions about the Leyton Lady Warrior Volleyball team coming into the 2024 season with the loss of some of their big hitters from last year due to graduation. But the Leyton squad made adjustments and have been using their speed, court-coverage, and solid fundamentals to tear through the regular season schedule as they head into October. On this undefeated streak, the Lady Warriors have only dropped two sets in 19 matches, and are clearly the area's dominant team in D-2.

The well-balanced team has a host of standouts that play well together and operate as a unit. Senior Shawnee Gamble leads the offense with 3.1 kills per set, and senior Sydney Fortune has compiled an outstanding 0.380 hitting percentage. Senior Middle Hitter Ella Haley has been formidable at the net with 20 total blocks, and Gamble leads with 42 service aces. Senior leader Zaili Benish sets up the offense with 313 assists so far this season, having surpassed the 1000 assist mark earlier in the year.

Leyton was scheduled to travel to Bridgeport for a match up with an always-tough Lady Bulldog team, but Leyton has been playing excellent volleyball and has the momentum going to be favored in this contest. They then host what should be easy wins against Creek Valley and Sandhills Valley on October 4 and 5. The only question that remains is will the Lady Warriors be able to pull off an undefeated regular season? The way they have been playing, its a good bet that they can. Regardless if they can do it, the Leyton girls look destined for a District Title and a high-seed in the State Tournament.
