Keep Sidney Beautiful's Open Mic Night is Keeping Sidney Connected

The sights of summer may be changing, but the sounds of summer persist. As part of Keep Sidney Beautiful's monthly open mic night, a community performance was held outside Pedalers Corner on Friday, September 27th. A well-attended event, the family-friendly outdoor concert was topped off with a special guest, Sweet Ice celebrating its final summer night out in Sidney for the year.

"It is amazing to look out and see you all here tonight," President of Keep Sidney Beautiful, Sandra Buckner commented in her greeting, "We brought Open Mic Night to Sidney because it's a community event. At Keep Sidney Beautiful we focus on the beautification of our community specifically with the collection of trash and litter but our Open-Mic Night fits in because it is about the beautification of the community, by the community, and for the community."

Many new faces of all ages comprised the variety of performers gracing the stage. The night kicked off with local self-published author and Executive Director of KSB, Michelle Haun, who read her original works. Modern Moves Fitness and Dance Studio brought heightened energy with not one but three different dance routines, all performed as solos by different dancers, from contemporary moves to break dancing. The ten-year-old "B-Girl" with Modern Moves impressed the crowd with her stellar improvisation and technique. Between the many new faces joining the stage, four improvised performances were also enjoyed. From a five-year-old girl in the audience feeling inspired to get up and sing, to a dancer, who then took the stage later for an improvised vocal solo, the true air of KSB's Open Mic Night was on full display and evident to those in the audience.

Keep Sidney Beautiful addressed the need for volunteers in all areas; from clean-up crews to board members, the local organization needs help. All materials are provided by the group for all clean-up projects.

Future open mic nights will be held on October 18, 2024 at C. Elliot Blooms and Modern Moves Fitness & Dance Studio, 1900 Illinois Street, November 16, 2024, at Elston House, 1005 10th Avenue, and on December 21, 2024 at The Cheyenne County Fairgrounds, 10955 Lincoln Highway, as part of the All is Bright Christmas Tour.
