Chase Results in Early Morning Crash and Grass Fire

SIDNEY-- At approximately 1 a.m. On Thursday, Oct 3, the Nebraska State Patrol requested an emergency assist from the Sidney Police Department in a single vehicle pursuit. Sidney Police were requested to deploy a tire deflation device to the fleeing vehicle. Before the device could be deployed, the vehicle lost control and crashed, sparking a grass fire near city limits. The dry conditions in the area cause the flames to spread rapidly, and the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene at approximately 1:20 am to fight the fire. The Potter Fire Department was also called to assist containing the fire.

Nebraska State Patrol and the Sidney Police Department arrested and placed John Harmon, Kyrie Riggle, and Dakota Schrecengost, into custody. All three were identified as being residents of Sterling, Colorado.

The three individuals were taken into custody and booked at the Cheyenne County Jail. John Harmon was charged with felony flight to avoid and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. Kyrie Riggle was charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and Dakota Schrecengost, who had a warrant out for his arrest, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation into the incident. The Sun-Telegraph has reached out to the Nebraska State Patrol and Sidney Police Department for additional information, but neither department has yet to respond to our request. As soon as the agencies release more information to the Sun-Telegraph, we will update this story.
