Hay Springs Runs Through Storm, 81-6

CHAPPELL--It was Thursday Night Football under the lights last week in Chappell, but a powerful Hay Springs Hawks team swooped into town and spoiled the fun for the Creek Valley faithful. The young Storm team gave it their all but were overpowered by the Hawks early in the game, and the Storm could not recover and lost the lopsided contest 81-to-6.

Hay Springs started immediately and scored on their initial drive. They ended the game scoring on all of their 11 possessions. Most of the damage came from the Hawks's rushing attack which scored seven touchdowns. Hay Springs senior quarterback Dylan Young was outstanding, rushing for two touchdowns, throwing for two touchdowns, and going up high to grab an interception and run it back untouched for a touchdown in the victory. Young went 2-for-9 passing for 109 yards and rushed three times for 71 yards.

Hay Springs amassed 219 rushing yards on 22 carries and had 90 overall passing yards on just three completions, compiling 309 yards of offense. Their defense had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Creek Valley junior Zander Polk passed for 80 yards, completing 8 out of 18 attempts. Sophomore Feenix Higgenbotham had the lone rushing touchdown for the Storm and carried the ball nine times for 71 yards. The Storm were able to muster 212 yards of offense in the loss.

It was the Storm's second 81-to-6 loss in a row, with last week's loss against Wallace. After the Storm's opening win against Minatare, they've struggled for points. However, they travel on Friday to match up against the winless Banner County Wildcats and will get a chance to get back on the winning track and build confidence.
