Coyotes Rebound with 64-58 Win Over Sioux County

HARRISON--Potter-Dix's Coyote Football team rebounded from a loss against Hay Springs on September 13 with a big win over Sioux County on Friday, September 20. The Coyotes used the week following the loss to refocus, and it paid off. A strong opening quarter by the Coyotes was the difference in the matchup against the Warriors.

The Coyotes were able to outscore the Warriors 30-to-20 in the first quarter, and that proved to be enough of an advantage to hold off the Sioux County team. The Warriors outscored the Coyotes 18-to-14 in the second quarter to narrow the Potter-Dix lead, but Potter-Dix matched each Warrior score through the second half to give the Coyotes the hard-fought win.

Potter-Dix improves their record to 2-and-1 with the victory. Junior quarterback Dylan Tabor again led the Coyote offense, going 8-for-15 through the air for 198 yards and three touchdowns while tossing one interception. Tabor rushed 16 times for 122 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Callen McConnell was also outstanding, going 6-for-8 through the air for 106 yards and a touchdown and rushing seven times for 37 yards. Senior Dawsen Monheiser bullied his way to 63 yards rushing on seven carries and had three touchdowns in the win. Junior Landon Gasseling was the main receiving target, grabbing seven passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

The defense had a well-rounded effort with three players, junior Kolby Labeau, junior Kyle Lenstrom, and Monheiser each having nine total tackles. Tabor and freshman Domonic Christensen each had an interception, and the defense registered three blocked extra point kicks.

Potter-Dix gears up for a second consecutive group of Warriors, in a Friday afternoon match up with Leyton in Dalton, and it will be the first meeting of the teams on the gridiron since 2015. Leyton switched over from 8-Man to 6-Man football this season and has adapted well to the change so far, with two wins in three games. Look for this to be a well-contested contest as the athletic Warriors team will look to take down their powerful rivals at home.
