Lady Raiders Take Sidney Invite Title

SIDNEY-- With three finishers in the Top Ten, the Sidney Lady Raider Golf team had an excellent start to the season on Tuesday, August 27 at the Sidney Invitational at Hillside Golf Club in Sidney.

The Junior Varsity squad also finished first, with four Top Ten finishers, and Cali Haas taking first place overall.

Overall conditions on the course were great, and the weather was ideal for the day, with bright sunshine and a gentle cool breeze. At the end of the day's round, Scottsbluff's Addie Peck earned top honors individually with a score of 79, followed in second place by Reese Ribera of Ogallala with a round of 86. Sidney's Claire Jordan had the best finish for the Lady Raiders with a round of 87 to secure third place, and Sidney's Josette McConnell finished fourth with a round of 94. Sidney's Katie Raffelson placed ninth with a round of 100, Aubrey Campbell's 103 earned her 13th place and Jordan DeNovellis round of 107 earned her 18th place. For the junior varsity, Sidney had four girls place in the top ten, with Cali Haas taking first place overall with a round of 103. Kat Jallen earned fourth place with a round of 118, Eden Jordan earned fifth place with a round of 120 and Lia Capirotti placed sixth with a round of 125.

In the Varsity team standings, Sidney took top honors with a team score of 384, followed by Chadron with a second-place finish with a score of 400. McCook placed third with a team score of 416. In the Junior Varsity team standings, Sidney placed first with score of 466, Scottsbluff earned second-place with a score of 484, and Kimball took third, with no official score as the team did not complete the course.

Sidney Head Coach Tyler Shaw said after the match, "The girls had a really good day. They have been walking the course a lot in preparation for our tournament. I think from top to bottom our girls played well. Every returning golfer shot a lower score than they did last year at this tournament which is exciting. The varsity had three finishers in the top ten, and the junior varsity had four finishers in the top ten with Cali Haas taking first."
