Lady Raiders Rebound With Wins Over Yuma, Brush

Fall to Ogallala Despite First Set Rally

SIDNEY--Sidney's Lady Raider Volleyball team rebounded after an opening-night match against Sterling which saw the Sidney girls fall in straight sets, 3-to-0. Sidney then hosted Yuma on September 3, then hosted Ogallala and Brush for a triangular on September 5.

Sidney's match against Yuma started with the teams trading points the whole way in the first set until Sidney gained an edge and took the first set, 25-to-23. Yuma came back in the second set with a win, 25-to-21, but then Sidney took the next two sets 25-to-23 and 25-to-18 to take the match 3-to-1. Sidney junior Kierra Schrader led the offense with 15 kills in the match.

On September 5, the Lady Raiders hosted Brush, Colo., and Ogallala for a triangular. First up was Brush, and the Sidney girls had little trouble with the Colorado team, taking the match in straight sets, 25-to-15 and 25-to-22. Sophomore Reagan Nesbitt led the offense with nine kills in the victory.

The Lady Raiders next match was not as easy. After falling behind Ogallala in the first set 15-to-22, the Lady Raiders had a rally that saw them cut the deficit down to 20-to-24. The girls fought furiously at match point, and were able to tie the match at 24, then grab the last few points for a big 27-to-25 first set win. However, the girls could not maintain the momentum, and the hard-hitting Ogallala team was able to battle back and take the next two sets 25-to-16 and 25-to-22 for the 2-to-1 match victory. Schrader led the offense again with nine kills in the loss.

Sidney was scheduled for two road matches this week, on Tuesday against Mitchell and then on Saturday against Gothenburg.
