New festival events as well as community favorites build excitement

Special to the Sun-Telegraph
This year, our Dalton Fall Festival will bring many of the same events as last year plus a couple of new!
Saturday, September 28th, our Senior Citizens group will serve coffee, rolls, and breakfast burritos out of the Senior Citizens building from 8:30-10 am to kick off the day. A sand volleyball tournament will begin at 9 am at Sagebrush Bar & Grill. At 10 am, the parade on Highway 385 will commence. Please try to park on a side street and walk to your spot along the highway to avoid traffic congestion and blocking views.
Just off the highway, on Main Street, we will have our second annual car show going on from 10 am - 1 pm. At Legion Park, come check out the craft fair inside the Legion Hall from 10-4. Then join us to watch the Nebraska Huskers play the Purdue Boilermakers on a big screen in the park! A beer garden will be hosted by the Sons of the American Legion all afternoon.
There will be multiple lunch options available for everyone. The Dalton Fire Department will be offering sloppy joes, burgers & hot dogs by the Gurley Fire Department, and street tacos will be provided by the New Hope AG Church. If you are feeling like barbeque, then H&L Meats will have you covered.
The annual horseshoe tournament will once again be held at the water tower. A double-elimination cornhole tournament and a kids mini carnival will get underway at the park at 11 am, and at 2 pm, a puzzle competition will begin, also at the park.
Making sure that nobody will go hungry at supper time, a free will donation hot dog feed will be provided by the Festival Committee at the park from 5:30-7 pm.
For those wanting a fun food experience, $10 will get you an all-you-can-eat BBQ from our BBQ competition! Our competitors will be ready to serve the public from 5:30-7 pm. Saturday evening will wrap up with live music at the park featuring Kelsey Jo and the Wildcards, performing from 7-10 pm.
To finish up the weekend, a community church service led by Pastor Bud Gillespie will take place in the high school gym at 9:30 am, Sunday. Then, join us for fellowship in the multipurpose room for a pancake feed provided by the Gurley Lions Club!
We can’t wait to see the weekend come together, see many smiling faces, and make some great memories.
