Lady Warriors Open With Triangular Sweep Over Minatare, Potter-Dix to Start Season

POTTER-- Leyton's Lady Warrior Volleyball team started their season strong with two convincing straight-set match wins over Minatare and Potter-Dix in Potter on Thursday, August 29. Leyton Head Coach Natasha Haupt's girls had a very productive summer with camps and team practices, and the Lady Warriors again look to be a force in D2-11.

Leyton opened against Minatare, and had little trouble against the Lady Indians, taking the first set 25-to-13 and the second set 25-to-8. Potter-Dix was also able to defeat Minatare in straight sets, 25-to-14 and 25-to-12. The highlight of the night was the Potter-Dix versus Leyton matchup, which would give a good measure of the Lady Coyote's progress as a young team.

The Leyton girls proved to still be at a higher level than their Cheyenne County rivals, with the Leyton girls taking the match in straight sets, 25-to-10 and 25-to-11. Even in the loss, Potter-Dix Head Coach Keri Mendoza was able to see what her girls needed to work on, saying, "We had a problem with some girls being sick, but that should be temporary. We will be working on attacking, and we didn't get the offense we needed. We had way too many tips and free balls. Leyton is not a team that you can hand them a free ball to attack. Our serve and receiving game was not too bad till the end of the Leyton match. We definitely have a few things to work on and get our girls feeling better. The girls hustled well and we just have a few things to fix; the Minatare match went well for us, and we were able to get a few blocks in both matches."

Leyton goes on the road this week with matches against Kimball on Tuesday, Sept 3, and Sioux County on Friday, September 6. Potter-Dix is also on the road with a matchup against Peetz on Tuesday, September 3, and then travels to Otis to take on Lone Star on Thursday, September 5.
