EUGENE J. MARKO

Eugene J. Marko, age 83, passed away on August 28, 2024, in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5-7 PM at Miller Funeral Home Downtown Chapel. Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Church of St. Mary, 2109 S. 5th Ave. Inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Center for Western Studies at Augustana College or Feeding South Dakota. Gene was born in 1941 to Stephen and Mildred (Michaud) Marko. He was raised in Cheyenne WY where he graduated from the Cathedral of St Mary school. He attended Regis College in Denver and obtained his Industrial Engineering degree at St. Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas. In 1964 Gene married Mary Ann Mohatt. They spent the first three years of married life in Panama as Papal Volunteers for Latin America. On return to the States, he served as hospital administrator in Spalding, NE and Linton, ND. In 1978 the family moved to Sioux Falls where Gene worked as Director of Physical Plant at Augustana University until his retirement in 2009. He has been a member of St Mary's Parish since 1978. Eugene leaves behind wife Maryann; children, Greg (Julie), Jerry (Kelli), Stephanie (Toni Ribas), and Shaun; siblings, Kay (Nick Reybrock), Elaine (Lynn Briggs), Marian Whited, and Chris (Bob Shinmori); grandchildren, Ben Wetmore (Michal), Josie (Pete Hagerty), Max (Sarah), and Jackie Marko, Pau, Emma, and Nora Ribas, and Claire and Maggie Marko; 13 great-grandchildren: Adele, Maggie, Charles, George, Vera, Evangeline, Whittaker, and Walter Wetmore, William, Lucy, Rosie, and Matthew Hegarty, and Augustine Marko; sister-in-law, Connie Marko.
