Jury comes back with guilty verdict in case of Sidney man charged with vehicular homicide

At 11:20 am on Tuesday, August 20, a jury came back with a verdict of guilty in the case of 38-year-old Curtis Strausser, charged with motor vehicle homicide resulting from a vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Link 17J Highway and Jennifer Lane on June 19, 2023.

At the time of the accident, Strausser was identified by the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office as the driver of the Ford pickup which struck 33-year-old Garrett Tvrs, a Sidney resident, who was riding his motorcycle.

CCSO Sheriff Adam Frerichs had said that Strausser cooperated with the investigation, and was extremely remorseful.

At the time, Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub stated, “The driver of a 2014 Ford Focus was traveling southbound on Link 17J turning east onto Jennifer Lane and struck a motorcycle traveling northbound on Link 17J. Strausser was cited for improper lane turn, failure to yield, and misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.”

Tvrs was taken to the Sidney Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries at the hospital at 6:25 p.m.

The accident was jointly investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), SPD, and CCSO.

After ordering a pre-sentencing report, Hon. Randin R. Roland, Judge of the County Court - 12th Judicial District, thanked the jury for their service.

Sentencing will be on September 24 at 9 am at the Cheyenne County Courthouse.
