Sidney's Trails West Tap Pool League Players Qualify for Nationals in Orlando

SIDNEY--Trails West Tap held its annual Title Holder event at the Sidney Elks Lodge on June 7-9, with 16 qualified 8-ball teams and 8-ball Singles qualifiers. Teams from Kimball, Sidney, Ogallala, and Hayes Center came to Sidney to compete for a chance to go to the Tap Nationals in Orlando, FL, from October 28 through November 3.

In round-robin qualifying, Wild Rock 8 playing out of The Rock Sports Bar took the number 1 seed with 10 wins. Pocket Pounders from Ogallala and Good Times from Kimball tied for the number two seed with 9 wins. Half Cocked and Fundamentally Unstable from Kimball and Twilight Zone from Ogallala tied for the number three seed with seven wins, and Dominators from Kimball had six wins for the number four seed. The VOD Squad, Herbie’s Hustlers, No Name Yet, and NOYFB all had five wins. Balls of Fire out of Winners Club and Casino in Sidney and Outcasts from Kimball had four wins while Chute 7 had one win.

Fundamentally Unstable beat Wild Rock 8 and Pocket Pounders beat Good Times in the semi-final round to advance to the finals. Pocket Pounders from Ogallala took the top spot by beating Fundamentally Unstable from Kimball to qualify for the Tap Nationals in Orlando.

In the 8-ball Singles category, it was Victor Wooley taking first place in skill level three, George Makris took first place in skill level four, and Izaac Glanz capturing first place in skill level five. All three qualify for Tap Nationals and will compete in Orlando.

The MVP Awards for 2023 go to Victor Wooley, skill level 3 in 8 Ball, and Tyler Garrett skill level category 4-5 in 8-Ball. For 9 Ball, MVP Awards went to Mac McFarland in skill level 4-5 and Deb Hendrickson in skill level two.

MVP Awards for 2024 in 8 Ball go to Garrett Strickland in the 4-5 skill level and George Makris in the 2-3 skill level.

The Scotch Doubles first session of 2023 saw the team of Strack-Stricklin take first place over the team of Gitschel-Long, and the second session of Scotch Doubles again saw the Strack-Stricklin team take first place over the Gitschel-Long team. The first Scotch Doubles session of 2024 had Strack-Stricklin again take first over the Gitschel-Long team.
