Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
It was a night of celebration and community on Tuesday, August 6th as PlainsWest CASA brought Sidney together to commemorate a night out. The well-attended event, which took place at the Aquatic Center, served as a way for our small town to enjoy an evening out enjoying one another's company while getting to know the names and faces of law enforcement and emergency service workers.
Serving over 450 hotdogs and bratwurst fresh off the grill was Chief of Police Joe Aiken, and community and city workers served the free plates to eager diners. Lining the event space were multiple emergency vehicles with their personnel ready to greet attendees and answer any questions they might have. Also on site were State Troopers with a seatbelt simulator showcasing the importance of buckling up.
"National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances," quotes natw.org while encouraging, "The best way to build a safer community is to know your neighbors and your surroundings. National Night Out triumphs over a culture that isolates us from each other and allows us to rediscover our communities."
Each year, Sidney's National Night Out is held at the Aquatic Center, a sort of nightcap to the summer season. "Thank you to the City of Sidney for keeping the pool open for our event, it sure adds to it," CASA's Krista Bruns stated. A time to soak up the last rays of sunshine while soaking in our small community, "Nothing makes me happier than seeing everyone have so much fun together," Sidney Mayor Brad Sherman commented.
"This year was a bigger crowd than in the past, we are very pleased with the turnout," Bruns says with a smile. Worth the few hours of summer community fun, next year's National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025.
