Troopers Seize 77 Pounds of Meth during Routine Traffic Stop on I-80

Nebraska State Patrol uncovered and confiscated 77 pounds of what appeared to be methamphetamine and arrested two people during a routine traffic stop.

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., an NSP trooper stopped a Hyundai Sonata for speeding on I-80, near mile marker 355. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered the vehicle was not insured.

Per standard protocol, a tow truck had been called for the uninsured vehicle, and before it arrived, a routine inventory of the contents in the vehicle was taken. It was during that inventory that multiple bags containing suspected methamphetamine were discovered. The total weight of the bags was 77 pounds.

The driver, Rosita Vizcarra, 28, and passenger, Julio Garcia-Guerrero, 26, both of Omaha, were arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver and subsequently lodged in York County Jail.

The suspects were arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver. Both were taken to York County Jail, where they are currently being held on 50,000 bond. As of Monday evening, they had not been listed in the Nebraska online court records.

According to the National Drug Intelligence Center, prices can run as high as $16000 per pound of methamphetamine
