SIDNEY--The Sidney Women in Agriculture Conference will be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge on August 2, and the conference’s theme is “Sowing Seeds for Generations”. The event is held in partnership with the Nebraska Women in Agriculture Program, which is designed to assist women in their agricultural business.
The Department of Agricultural Economics is committed to bringing Nebraska Ag women’s management education and recognizes the vital role that women play in the agricultural industry. Whether the information is business or family-focused, Nebraska Women in Agriculture strives to provide women the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.
Women in Agriculture was started in 1985 by Jane Green and Deb Rood. They spent a winter presenting a program for ag couples called “Managing for Tomorrow”, and discovered that women were eager students who wanted to learn more about management. The idea for a farm and ranch management conference targeted toward women came about quickly, and Deb Rood, Jane Green, Larry Bitney, Glennis McClure, and Pat Parmley combined their talents and passion for agriculture to create the first Women in Agriculture conference.
Their first conference had ten workshops covering topics ranging from selecting a lawyer to managing family finances. The group believed the conference would be successful if 75 women attended, but they were thrilled when over 200 women attended. The Women in Ag Conferences continued to grow and now upwards of 275 women attend the annual event.
“Sowing Seeds for Generations” is the theme of the annual Sidney Women in Agriculture Conference held Aug. 2, 2024, at the Elks Lodge in Sidney, Nebraska. This event is being held in partnership with the Nebraska Women in Agriculture Program.
This year’s event is at the Elks Lodge in Sidney on August 2, starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. Event organizer Carmen Draper said, “Past years have been very successful, and we are excited to offer another great conference. This is a wonderful event for all women to learn new skills in a fun environment.”
