Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
"Small town values, big-time opportunities". The saying that greets you as you cross into the city limits of Sidney is not only true of the town itself but also its offerings for Summer. As part of Take Back Health & Fitness' annual obstacle course and 5k run, they have officially partnered with the Cheyenne County Fair and Rodeo for a day filled with action, adventure and cold beer, and it all begins at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 27th at Legion Park.
Looking to offer more than just the usual Summer activities in the surrounding area, Amanda Bauer and Kalena Seaman took their business to new heights as a way to give back to the community and enjoy an event not commonly seen in these parts. Bauer and Seaman, with the help of family and friends, have taken the time and the muscles to construct their course. "If you want to race but don't think you can do a particular obstacle, that's okay, just skip it and keep going," Seaman said in regard to skill set and flexibility. "The race was created to inspire fun and freedom outdoors, not anxiety."
Research has shown that obstacle courses create a positive learning environment, helping to focus on challenges such as teamwork and communication, problem-solving and memorization, and strength and agility - all skill sets that promote and encourage essential motor skill development.
Boasting 20 obstacles, a giant water slide, a mud pit, and a beer garden at the end for those old enough to indulge, this event is for anyone looking for fun, food, and maybe a cold beer.
