Mary Alice was born December 10, 1928 in Chappell, NE to Anthony and Flossie Lovell. She was the third of five children. Mary graduated from Chappell High School. She married the love of her life, Alvin Bartling, on December 5, 1948. To this union seven children were born. Mary was a homemaker who raised her children and helped on the family farm. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved cooking, and loved tending to her garden and flowers. Mary was an active member of the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Above all, she loved spending time with (and feeding) her large family. Her greatest joy was teaching her grandchildren how to cook. In the late 1970's, Mary started her next chapter when she began working at Memorial Hospital in Sidney in the laundry department where she went above and beyond with mending and labeling clothing for her patients. Her friendly smile and conversations were a bright spot for so many. She worked until her retirement after 30+ years of service. Mary's calling to this earth was to be a loving caregiver to all.
Mary Alice is survived by her children, Allen and wife Jolene Bartling of Lincoln, NE, Bruce and wife Carol Bartling of Dewitt, NE, Cheryl and husband Pat Faimon of Lawrence, NE, Delma Bartling of Red Cloud, NE, Jerome Frei of Potter, NE, Galen and wife Jill Bartling of Lodgepole, NE. 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister Theresa Frerichs of Dalton, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, son Edwin, and daughter Fern Frei.
