Lois Ann Conrad

On July 7, 2024, Lois Ann Conrad gracefully ascended to the kingdom of God. In her final moments on earth, she was enveloped by the love of her family. In heaven, she was joyfully greeted by family, friends, and every dog she had ever met. We can imagine her either dancing up a storm or instructing the angels on the finer points of dusting and cleaning.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at St. Patrick's Church with Father Tim Stoner Officiating. Burial followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Lois' care and funeral arrangements.

Lois was born on May 15, 1930, to Paul and Angeline (Stewart) Schroeder in West Point, NE. She attended school in Wisner, NE, graduating from high school in 1948. Lois attended Wayne State, as well as Creighton University. During her college years she worked at MGM Movie Distributors and No. Natural Gas Co.

In Omaha, during a trip to the campus commissary, Lois spotted a dapper young man at the counter and asked him, "How's your orange juice?". That young man was Bob Conrad. Bob and Lois were married June 20, 1953, at St. John's Catholic Church on the Creighton University campus.

Bob and Lois spent their early years of marriage in Bancroft, Nebraska, surrounded by many great friends and family. And it was in Bancroft that they started their family, being blessed with three children, Paul, Kathy, and Jeff.

In 1968 the family moved to Sidney, Nebraska, as Bob's dream of owning and operating a bank had come true. Lois was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom, who also volunteered in her community where needed. She was active in Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, St. Patrick's Church Rummage House, member of the Sidney Library Board and Sidney National Bank Board. As a couple, Lois and Bob also delivered Meals on Wheels. Lois loved her Catholic faith, going to Mass, receiving the sacraments, and participating in a weekly hour of adoration.

Lois was known for her impeccable fashion sense and was often admired as a classy lady. However, her resilience was put to the test when she and her husband were both diagnosed with cancer at the same time. This drastically changed her life. Unbeknownst to her, she embodied the spirit of a warrior by surviving cancer, coping with the loss of her beloved Bob to the disease, and living another 15 years after his death.

Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nana) and great-grandmother (Gigi). She was a good listener, counselor, and made everyone feel special and welcome in her home - which was immaculately clean and put together, just as she was herself.

Lois will be greatly missed by her son, Paul and Suzanne Conrad of Sidney, her daughter, Kathy and Jeff Bloom of Rapid City, SD, son Jeff and Sarah Conrad of Parker, CO; eight grandchildren: Anthony Conrad, Brittany (Devon) Falch, Courtney Conrad, Cassidy (Jared) Stalley, Josie (Jake) Stephens, and Annie (Taylor Auringer) Bloom, Rachel (Takaho) Moriki, and Amy Conrad; and 6 great-grandchildren: Brayden, Adelyn, and Mairin Stalley, and Llewyn, Lenora, and Leif Stephens.

Lois had one younger brother, Keith Schroeder, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2022, in Wisner, NE. Lois was fortunate enough to be able to travel for his funeral and return to her roots. She was so happy after her journey and reunion with so many of her beloved cousins she grew up with.

Special thanks go out to Edgewood Assisted Living and Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD. We will always be indebted to both facilities, but especially the Hospice House for their loving care and attention in Lois' final months of life.
