Fair Board Crosses T's and Dots I's in Final Meeting Before Fair

SIDNEY--The Cheyenne County Fair Board met for the final time on Monday before the start of the Cheyenne County Fair on July 20. After approving the agenda and minutes from the last meeting, the board got down to business.

First was the Treasurer's Report, and Kip Miller said he had nothing new to report, as all bills had been paid out and they were ready to start the next fiscal year. He mentioned Floyd's Auto had sent in a sponsorship check and that Tim Lecher State Farm Insurance agreed to be a banner sponsor for the fair.

President Troy Kurz then went down the list of events and heard from the board members responsible for each for an update. In almost every case, the details had been worked out and the event was ready to go. For the Rowdy Round-Up Dance and Cheer Competition, Tyler Bailey said that there were five cheer teams and four dance teams signed up, and a few more might come in at the last minute. There were still a few questions about getting sponsorship banners for the teams and how the stage would be arranged, but Bailey and board member Shelby Roelle said that all of those details would be worked out after the Monday meeting.

The Barrel Race is prepped for a big turnout, with an additional $1000 in prize money added to draw more riders from races happening in other areas on the same day. The group discussed the need to drag the arena during the event, and since the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds have one of the best dirt tracks in the area, they should be able to drag the dirt effectively and quickly and not disrupt the schedule.

Shelby Roelle next told the board the Open Class Horse Show was ready to go, all the competitors were entered and all of the pre-event work had been completed.

Deb Vach of the Rodeo Committee went over the final details of the Rodeo events, noting first seven hotel rooms had been secured for rodeo talent as per agreement. She said there were 18 entrants in the Mutton Bustin' event so far, and they expected a few more to sign up before the event. There was discussion about three new slide gates being ready to contain the animals, and that another needed to be prepared for use. Discussions and assignments were then made for helpers at the rodeo events to assist with the gates and animals getting in and out of the arena. There was a brief discussion about the Rubber Check race. Heather Shaw, the board member managing the event, was connected to the meeting via Zoom but was having connectivity issues. The board agreed to try to speak with her later if she could resolve the connection issues.

The board next went on to discuss the music events, and in both cases, there were a few details to be ironed out, but the board members are working closely with the entertainer's management companies to get the final issues resolved by the end of the week. All of the details of the Demolition Derby had been worked out and that event is ready to go, as well as the Lawn Mower race. The board still needs to confirm an announcer for the events as they are waiting to find out availability for the announcer they prefer, but a backup is ready to go if necessary.

The board has received final responses for vendors who will be at the fair, and now the board needs to coordinate with 4-H representatives to determine which vendors will go inside the 4-H building and which will be outside. The Magician-Hypnotist is ready to go and will perform multiple shows on Friday and Saturday at the Fair. The VR Trailer confirmed that he would bring his own power source, and the Kid's Pedal-Pusher Tractor Pull event is also ready to go.
