Take Back Health & Fitness Makes the Move

One is surrounded by plants as you enter Take Back Health & Fitness' new location at 1700 Illinois Street; walk inside and you're greeted as a friend. Leaving after a morning workout, Kalena Seaman reminds her client of their progress and sends them off with a pleasant "K, love you, bye," as she and her patron exchange a "foot high five."

The vision of Amanda Bauer and Seaman, TBH&F began as an idea seven years ago when the duo teamed up to help one another with their personal fitness goals. Looking for the same type of environment, one that supported and encouraged, while also offering privacy and person-ability, Bauer and Seaman banded together to create the dynamic duo that is Take Back Health & Fitness today.

"We understand that the gym can be very intimidating, that's why we created this environment for our clients," Seaman says, "Our program is for all ages, designed just for you. We are looking to expand but mostly one-on-one for individual training and focus. Our new space allows us to do just that."

With a predominately senior clientele, Seaman created a "Kid's Summer Boot Camp" as an incentive to get youth out of the house and engaged in positive activity in their community. Each Tuesday and Thursday until August 8th, starting at 3:00 pm, TBH&F hosts an afternoon class filled with fitness, teamwork, and fun for ages 5-10.

Fitness isn't the only offering of TBH&F, Seaman is also a certified nutritionist offering individual meal plans and nutritional assistance to clients. "It's all based on your personal needs, I'm just here to help and make things easier to understand," Seaman comments, "Some of our clients have been with us 5 years plus, while others are new. I always joke around and tease that trainers are just underpaid therapists and overpaid bullies, I love my relationship with my clients and the time spent with them. There is so much mentally and emotionally that we get from one another."

The move has been an easy one, with both clients and trainers enjoying the bigger space, "It's been great so far, everything has worked out well for what we needed. We even have a shop to build our obstacle course," Seaman says with a huge smile regarding their annual obstacle course event on July 27th at 9:00 am. The event boasts 20 obstacles, a giant water slide with a mud pit, and a cold beer at the end, for those old enough to indulge.

Working to be involved in the community, Take Back Health & Fitness aims at flexibility, "Know that we're always here and we're always available, we even offer online training," Seaman says with sincerity, "We're here, there's no pressure in that."
