James "Jim" Patrick Walsh was born on January 16, 1948, to Dennis and Faye Walsh in Dalton, NE. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Sidney, NE, in 1967. He went on to attend Kearney State College, graduating in 1971. While attending Kearney State, he married Cheryl (Sittner) Walsh. The couple moved to Lewellen, NE, in 1980 and opened a True Value Hardware, operating the store until 1997. Jim then moved to Omaha, NE where he remained until his passing.
Jim was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It didn't matter if it was football, baseball, basketball, or volleyball. Jim was always wearing his Husker red with pride. As a father, Jim enjoyed coaching his sons' baseball teams, officiating basketball games, and helped announce Lewellen football games. This love of sports continued when he became a grandfather, as he greatly enjoyed watching his three grandchildren in all of their endeavors.
If there was anything that Jim loved more than sports, it was family. He loved hearing about the farm and extended family from his sisters Mary Jo and Beth. He lovingly attended to the role of caretaker for his youngest son Andrew when they both lived in Omaha. He cherished the visits he had with sons Jeff and Brian during his final years. And he loved watching and hearing from his three grandchildren, oftentimes calling just to find out what they'd been up to. He especially loved spending time with his daughter Sara.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Dennis Walsh, and mother Faye Cortney Walsh; brother-in-law Jay Peters, niece Kelly Blubaugh; and great-niece Sara Russell.
Jim is survived by his children, Sara and husband Justin Bigsby, Jeff, Brian, and Andrew Walsh; grandchildren Alex, Abbie, and Anna Bigsby; siblings Kay and husband Chris Kachulis, Mary Jo Peters, Agnes, Dennis, Tom, and Beth Walsh; and 16 nieces and nephews.
