Sidney Public Library: Spicing up Summer

Programs and Events to Get You in The Community Spirit

Looking for something fun to do in the convenience of your hometown? The Sidney Public Library located at 1112 12th Avenue has just what you’re searching for, and more.

Boasting children, young adult, and adult reading programs, the opportunity to claim different local prizes for your time reading is an option this Summer. “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s expressions. We’ve had some fabulous prizes donated this year,” Heather Rohm head of the adult reading program had to say, “I’m also really looking forward to the Summer Reading Wrap-Up in Legion Park; we’ll have a kid’s station for building s’mores and a build your own kite station,” Rohm teases.

A familiar face, Eileen Nightingale, who’s in charge of the children’s summer reading program, will host the ever-popular “Toddler Trekkers” on Wednesdays for toddlers aged 2-3 years old. “The kids are always my favorite part of the Summer programs, it’s fun to see them excited for the books and different crafts,” Nightingale mentions, “I love when children want to check out the book I’ve just read to them.”

Running the front desk and the young adult reading program is Laramie Burner, “I enjoy seeing the teens coming into read and hearing they enjoyed the book they’ve checked out,” Burner adds, “I count those moments as victories.” As there is a large influx of teen readers in the Summer season, it’s essential to have a program in the community that is both free and entertaining, “I’m currently reading ‘Legendary’ by Stephanie Garber, one of our teen readers recommended the series to me and I’m now of the second book of the trilogy.” An obvious from the interactions at the Sidney Library, the readers and their impact are evident.
