LODGEPOLE--Just west of Lodgepole is a new business that has been set up recently, but its owner is no newcomer to the Agricultural Equipment industry. Fast Track Machinery, owned by Jace Glanz, offers all types of equipment that is necessary in this area, from agricultural machinery to general construction equipment.
Glanz grew up farming and learned how to fix, modify, and refurbish equipment through years of hands-on experience. He has a yard on Route 30, just outside of Lodgepole, with inventory that is growing every day. Fast Track has been operating for about a year now, and Glanz is building a reputation as the "go-to" guy to source used and refurbished equipment, both for agricultural and general use.
Glanz said, "I get most of my equipment from auctions and private sales, and we also trade for equipment and do consignment sales." Fast Track offers a variety of tillage machinery, which is Glanz's specialty. "We do a lot of tillage machinery, but also just about everything else from sprayers to snow plows to disc chisels," he said.
Although farming and working on equipment has always been a part of Glanz's life, his journey into the business of sourcing, rehabbing, and selling equipment started about 10 years ago when he met Gene Nuss from Sterling, Colo., who needed him to haul some equipment down from Lodgepole to Sterling. "He needed a piece of machinery pulled down to Sterling and I did it, and then over time he kept calling back for more and we started working together," said Glanz.
Nuss taught Glanz the business of sourcing and selling used equipment and acted as a mentor in his development. It was Nuss who encouraged Glanz to open his own business and wanted to set up a relationship where they could rotate equipment between the yards, to always be able to offer customers in their respective locations different options and choices. Glanz said "Gene taught me a lot about this business, and one of the main things is that somebody will need a certain piece of equipment, no matter how specialized or out of the ordinary it is. So it's important to be able to source a wide variety of equipment and machinery because as Gene told me, "There's a butt for every seat", and he was right. Somebody's always looking for something, and many times they just don't know where to look to find it."
Unfortunately, shortly after Glanz opened his yard, Nuss passed away. Although he is gone, his knowledge of the business has been passed down to Glanz, who uses it to help customers looking for hard-to-find equipment at a good price. "Knowing where to look for certain types of equipment and what hoops need to be jumped through to get a deal done is my specialty, so it's something I offer my customers to set myself apart from other dealers. With me, you're dealing with the owner of the company who can make decisions, and who knows where to find certain types of machinery and equipment that can be difficult to source. Plus, I know how to make sure it's going to run right for you when you purchase it for your business. For many folks, these machines and equipment are the keys to their livelihood, and I make sure that it's going to be reliable and run right for them."
Used equipment sales have been surging over the past few years due to the struggles with the economy, and many buyers have been priced out of the market. It is critically important when sourcing used equipment for your farm or business, you have someone working with you who has extensive experience in sourcing and rehabilitating the machinery your business depends upon.
