Medals Won, Records Toppled at Burke Stadium

Raider Track Stars Put On Show in Omaha

OMAHA--Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field qualifiers traveled to Burke Stadium in Omaha late last week to compete in the 2024 NSAA Class B Track & Field Championships and, as has been throughout the season, the Red Raider and Lady Raider standouts shined on the podium with their earned medals while breaking many records in the competition.

The Lady Raider qualifiers were outstanding in the competition, led by seniors Karsyn Leeling, Chloe Ahrens, Payton Schrotberger and Talissa Tanquary. The Lady Raiders ended up with a third-place finish as at team with 57 points, behind second-place Elkhorn North with 62 points and first-place Waverly with 66 points.

Karsyn Leeling took the gold in High Jump as expected, although her winning jump of 5' 9" was off from her All-Class record-breaking jump of 6' 1.5 earlier in the season. The University of Nebraska commit also won the Long Jump with a jump of 18' 9.5" and the Triple Jump with a jump of 37' 02". Chloe Ahrens won the 100 Meter Hurdles with a Class B State and State Meet record time of 14.42. Ahrens placed second in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 45.19. Talissa Tanquary placed 14th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.33 and eighth in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:20.07. The Lady Raider 4x100 Meter Relay team of freshman Melody Sanchez, Ahrens, Leeling and Schrotberger placed second with a time of 49.05. The time breaks a Sidney High School record of 50.02 set in 2004.

The 4x400 Meter Relay team of Ahrens, sophomore Katie Dowse, Schrotberger and Tanquary placed 10th with a time of 4:04.55. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Dowse, freshman Jordynn Schnell, freshman Taylor Sprenger and Tanquary finished 9th with a time of 10:01.87.

The Red Raider qualifiers also had success in the competition, with senior Isak Doty taking third-place in the 200 Meters, sophomore Lance Holly placing 10th in the 400 Meters with a time of 50.37, and sophomore Keian Kaiser placing fourth in High Jump, clearing 6' 4". the 4x100 Meter Relay team of sophomore Lance Holly, Doty, junior Landon Riddle and senior Luke Holly placed second, with a time of 42.57, and the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Lance Holly, sophomore Alek Doty, freshman Rhys Dorcey and Doty placed 16th with a time of 3:29.29. The Red Raiders finished 12th as a team with 19 points. The top three finishers were Norris with 103.33 points, Waverly with 55 points and Omaha Skutt Catholic with 53 points.
