OMAHA--The Leyton, Potter-Dix and Creek Valley schools sent their qualifiers to the NSAA 2024 Class D State Championship Meet at Omaha Burke Stadium late last week. A number of qualifiers were able to medal in the competition, with school records being broken at the event.
For Creek Valley, senior Samantha Marin medaled in the 1600 Meters, placing sixth with a time of 5:38.83, a personal best for her. Marin also placed eighth in the 3200 Meters with a time of 12:56.38. Senior Anna Speirs placed 18th in the 1600 Meters with a time of 5:55.48.
For Leyton, junior Shawnee Gamble placed 15th in the 100 Meters with a time of 12.94 and sophomore Macey Roelle placed 22nd in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:05.16. Junior Zaili Benish placed 12th in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.59 and seventh in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 46.91. Senior Claire Watchorn placed 15th in Discus with a throw of 107' and junior Riley Jones placed sixth in High Jump, clearing 5'. The girls 4x400 Meter Relay team of Roelle, Gamble, Watchorn and Benish medaled, placing sixth with a time of 4:13.92. This breaks a 33 year-old school record. Benish also broke a 19 year-old record in the 300 Meter Hurdles.
For the boys, Leyton senior Kaleb Borges placed 21st in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 17.28 and placed 19th in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 43.81. Potter-Dix junior Dawsen Monheiser placed 22nd with a throw of 41' 8.75". Potter-Dix sophomore Landon Gasseling competed in High Jump, but did not have a qualifying jump.
