C. Elliot Blooms Welcomes Hundreds for First Annual 'Mommy & and Me' Market

New Local Florist Hosts Market Celebrating Mother's Day and Showcasing Nine Area Businesses

Special to the Sun-Telegraph

The clouds parted, allowing the sunshine through for the first time in what seemed a long while, Friday, May 10th, which was perfect timing to celebrate Mother's Day in a new and unique way in Sidney, Nebraska. Eager shoppers enjoyed their frozen confections and flavored lemonades, shopping the selection of various goods, while children crafted colorful drawings outside on the sidewalk.

Part of the idea behind the event was to promote community, while also bolstering creativity. Local businesswoman and owner of C. Elliot, Kelsey Arrington, had this to say about the event, "The thought of the Mommy & Me Market originally sparked when a friend told me, 'There's so much to do for kids here in Sidney, but not enough activities for their moms (and Dads),' and I completely agreed with her. By bringing together local business owners, many of whom happen to be mothers, or are expecting, and combining this with inviting the community to gather together to celebrate one another, a lot can flourish in that space." She mentions with a smile, "It just seems appropriate for a new floral shop to serve as a space for the area to nourish and grow."

A good part of the day consisted of vendors' children and others artistically decorating the front of the business' sidewalk. "I gave out a box of sidewalk chalk to not only keep the kids busy but to also inspire their inner artist." Arrington continues, "Since part of the market was celebrating everyone's talents and specialties, why not let them have a little creative fun as well?" Some of the impromptu doodles consisted of "hellos," and names, while others scattered rainbow hearts and daisies over the previously bare pavement.

The afternoon Market brought together a collection of nine different vendors from the surrounding areas. On-site for the event were homemade ice cream, crafted on-the-spot beverages, a free Photo Booth, jewelry - of the permanent and charm bar nature, original artwork, modern apparel and a local non-profit organization handing out free goods.

"I'd like to give a special thanks and shoutout to the wonderful vendors who were flexible and open to giving a rather big spontaneous idea a shot: Projekt:3D, Mckailie Nicole Photo, Aria Rose (and her Mother, Jenn), Dr. Rookstool with Myopically Yours, Keep Sidney Beautiful, The Silver Lining - Trinket & Charm Bar, Price Cream Co., Beans & Steams, and Cora with Lakuna Links". When asked whether this will become an annual event, "Yes, I think it will. With such a wonderful response and turnout from the public, I already have ideas brewing for next year," Arrington comments.
