SCOTTSBLUFF--On Tuesday, April 30, the Sidney Red Raider Track & Field teams traveled to Bearcat Stadium and put on a show, with both teams easily winning top honors at the Western Conference Meet. The boys' team earned first place with 143 points, easily outpacing second-place Scottsbluff's 108 points and third-place Gering's 92 points. For the girls, it was Sidney in first with a whopping 182 points, followed by Scottsbluff with 97 points and Gering with 96.
For the girls, senior Karsyn Leeling and freshman Melody Sanchez were able to take first and third place in the 100 Meters, Sanchez was able to win the 200 meters, and senior Talissa Tanquary and sophomore Katie Dowse were able to finish first and second in the 400 Meters. Tanquary and Dowse teamed up for a second-place and fourth-place finish in the 800 Meters. Freshman Kylee Kampfe placed fifth in the 1600 Meters and third in the 3200 Meters. Senior Chloe Ahrens won the 100 Meter Hurdles and junior Ashlynn Weinbender placed fifth. Ahrens also took gold in the 300 Meter Hurdles.
The 4x400 Meter Relay team of Ahrens, Dowse, Tanquary, and freshman Jordynn Schnell took first place, and the 4x800 Meter Relay team of Dowse, Schnell, freshman Taylor Sprenger and Tanqury also took first place. Reagan Nesbitt was able to secure sixth place in the Shot Put, and Sidney struck it big in Discus with junior Jordan DeNovellis winning gold, Nesbitt winning silver, and junior Deanna Horst taking bronze. DeNovellis' throw of 115' 11" is a personal best for her. Karsyn Leeling took first in the High Jump and freshman Rylan Misegadis earned fifth place, sophomore Kierra Schrader placed sixth in the Pole Vault. Leeling and senior Payton Schrotberger placed first and second in the Long Jump, and Kampfe and Misegadis placed first and second in the Triple Jump.
For the boys, seniors Isak Doty and Luke Holly had another first and second finish in the 100 Meters and 200 Meters with junior Landon Riddle placing sixth in the 100 Meters, freshman Rhys Dorcey placing fifth in the 200 meters, and Riddle placing sixth in the 200 Meters. Sophomore Lance Holly took gold in the 400 Meters and Dorcey placed fourth, and sophomore Ben Monheiser placed third in the 800 Meters. Junior Patrick McCartney, freshman Kyle Jaggers, sophomore Sam Hulbert, and sophomore Keian Kaiser placed 4-through-7 in the 110-meter hurdles, and McCartney, Jaggers, and Kaiser placed 4,5,6 in the 300-meter Hurdles.
Sidney's 4x100 Meter Relay team of Lance Holly, Isak Doty, Luke Holly, and Rhys Dorcey earned first place, the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Lance Holly, Alek Doty, Rhys Dorcey and Isak Doty took second place and the 4x800 Meter Relay team of junior Dillon Cagle, junior Noah Canas, Monheiser and freshman Mario Maytorena placed third. Senior McGuire Rolls earned third place in Shot Put, and senior Matthew Danch placed second in Discus, followed by Alek Doty in fourth place and senior Dominik Lucero in fifth place. Kyle Jaggers placed third in the High Jump, followed by freshman Kash Knobbe in fourth place and Alek Doty in sixth place. Landon Riddle won the Long Jump to round out the Sidney scoring.
The teams competed in the District Meet in Ogallala on Tuesday, and qualifiers will be going to Burke Stadium on May 15 and 16 for the NSAA State Championships
