Bulldogs Roll in Double Header Win Over Briggsdale

PEETZ--After a slow start to their season, the Peetz Bulldog baseball team has started to find its rhythm and have started filling the win column. The Bulldogs hosted a double-header against Briggsdale on April 17, and coming in with a 3-and-6 mark, with the Bulldogs were looking to add some more wins.

In the first game, starter Nicoli Serkiz ran into trouble early, as after running the count to 3-and-2 against the first batter, he then hit the batter with a pitch. The second batter, Briggsdale's Scott Francis, was able to connect on a pitch that bounced in the dirt before the plate. The leadoff runner was able to get to third base safely, giving the Falcons runners at 1st and 3rd. Francis then stole second while Briggsdale's Gentry Johnson struck out. David Reno then drilled a single to left field, scoring two runs for the Falcons. After an infield single and a walk to load the bases, Wyatt Francis struck out on a wild pitch, and Reno was then thrown out trying to steal home on the strikeout, ending the top of the first inning with Briggsdale up 2-to-0.

Peetz fired back in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of errors to score four runs. With Cash Haun on the mound, Chance Segelke led off and hit a single. Conner Schumacher then lifted a fly ball for an out to center field, while Segelke tagged up and moved to third base. Segelke then scored on a wild pitch, and Aiden Hill was thrown out trying to bunt for a single. With two outs, Rhyder Bayne smashed a single to center field, then Colin Fehringer lifted a fly ball to right field that was dropped for an error, enabling Bayne to score. Logan Vallier then singled to give Peetz runners on the corners, before Haun got Patrick Moreno to hit a lazy fly ball to right field. Again the easy out was dropped, scoring two runs and giving Peetz a 4-to-2 lead.

In the second inning, the Falcons had a runner on second base when Tanner Fiscus lifted a fly ball to left field. The ball was caught for an out, then Haun tried to advance to third base. A good throw enabled Conner Schumacher to tag out Haun at third base, ending the top of the second. Briggsdale was able to get a run back in the third inning, but Peetz scored three more in their half of the frame. The Bulldogs added another run in the fourth, three more in the fifth and two more in the six while shutting down the Falcon's offense with the combined efforts of Serkiz, Rhyder Bayne and Conner Schumacher on the mound for the 13-to-3 win.

In the second game, Rhyder Bayne and Conner Schumacher combined for 125 pitches and only gave up one run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bulldogs eased their way to an 8-to-1 win. The win moved their record to 5-and-6 on the season. On April 22, the Bulldogs traveled to Weldon Valley for another doubleheader, and were able to easily take both games from the Warriors by scores of 37-to-6 and 26-to-4, giving them a 7-and-6 mark on the season.
