Red Raiders Place Third at Sidney Invite, Fifth at Hershey Invite

SIDNEY--The start of the annual Sidney Invitational Boys Golf Tournament at Hillside Golf Course on Thursday, April 4, was delayed about an hour as the assembled golfers waited for the temperature to warm up and burn off a layer of frost on the course. At 10 a.m. the competition started, and a good day conditions-wise resulted.

The Scottsbluff Varsity team was in great form, with four of their golfers placing in the top 10 at the end of the day. Second place Gering had three golfers in the top 20 and third place Sidney also had three golfers in the top 20.

Scottsbluff earned the team victory by a wide margin, with their team score of +27 far outpacing second-place Gering's team score of +54. Sidney placed third with a +65 team score, followed by Alliance, Chadron, Ogallala and Kimball.

Individually, it was Scottsbluff's Tommy Dredla that came out on top, shooting a 72 for a par score. Kimball's Kyler Luchue placed second with a 76, and Wisley Mocc of Scottsbluff placed third with an 80. For Sidney, their top finisher was Logan Johnson in 11th place with an 85, followed by 14th place Cole Hanley with an 86 and 18th place John Meza with an 87. Anderson Smelley finished with a 95, earning him 29th place and Cooper Jobman finished with a 103, earning him 36th place. 47 golfers in all competed, and it was a great day of golfing competition at Hillside Golf Course.

On Thursday, April 11, the Red Raider linksters travelled to Hershey for the Hershey Invitational. Two Red Raider golfers finished in the top 20 to lead the team to a fifth place finish overall with a team score of 379. The North Platte Blue team finished first with a team score of 355, Perkins placed second with a team score of 359 and Overton placed third with a team score of 364.

Individually, Cole Hanley led the Red Raiders with a score of 89 and a ninth place finish. Logan Johnson finished with a score of 93, earning him 14th place. Anderson Smelley finished with a score of 97, John Meza finished with a score of 100, and Shane Lilly ended his day with a 110.

The Red Raiders travel on April 18 to compete in the Gothenburg Invitational.
