Raiders Excel at Dutch Zorn, Alliance Invites

Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams continued their strong performances over the past week, with excellent results in the Dutch Zorn Invite at Gothenburg High School on Thursday, April 11 and at the Alliance Invite on Saturday, April 13.

The Lady Raiders dominated the competition at the Dutch Zorn Invite, scoring 117 points, far ahead of second place McCook with 85 points and third place Kearney Catholic with 84 points. The Red Raider boy's squad placed third at the Dutch Zorn, with 63.5 points. Gothenburg took top honors with 93 points, edging the second place McCook team with 92 points.

The Lady Raiders scored in the sprints, with senior Payton Schrotberger placing fourth in the 100 Meters, freshman Melody Sanchez placing third in the 200 Meters, senior Talissa Tanquary placing third in the 400 Meters and sophomore Katie Dowse placing third in the 800 Meters. Senior Chloe Ahrens continued her dominance in the hurdles, winning both the 100 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles. The Sidney 4x100 Meter Relay team of Melody Sanchez, Chloe Ahrens, senior Karsyn Leeling and Payton Schrotberger took first place, as well as the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Chloe Ahrens, Payton Schrotberger, Talissa Tanquary and Katie Dowse. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Katie Dowse, freshman Kylee Kampfe, freshman Taylor Sprenger and Talissa Tanquary placed second. The SMR 1600 Meter Relay team of Melody Sanchez, Karsyn Leeling, Taylor Sprenger and Talissa Tanquary also took first place. Karsyn Leeling again won the High Jump, and the Long Jump, with Payton Schrotberger placing second, to score for Sidney.

For the boys, senior Isak Doty won the 100 Meters with junior Landon Riddle placing third and sophomore Lance Holly placing fourth. Doty again won the 200 meters, followed by Lance Holly in second place. Sidney did well in the relays, with the 4x100 Meter Relay team of Lance Holly, Isak Doty, Landon Riddle and senior Luke Holly taking first, and the 4x800 Meter Relay team of junior Noah Canas, sophomore Ben Monheiser, junior Dillon Cagle and freshman Mario Maytorena placing second.

At the Alliance Invite, the Lady Raiders placed second with 132 points. First place Chadron finished with 161 points and third place Alliance finished with 115 points. Talissa Tanquary had a first place finish in the 200 Meters and freshman Jordynn Schnell finished second in the 800 Meters. Tanquary also placed second in the 1600 Meters. Junior Ashlynn Weinbender took first in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Freshman Reagan Nesbitt placed first in Discus and second in Shot Put, while Karsyn Leeling set yet another State Record in High Jump, clearing 6' 1.5" to take first, followed by freshman Ryan Misegadis in second place. Kierra Schrader won the Pole Vault, while Kylee Kampfe won the Triple Jump and placed second in the Long Jump.

For the boys, the Red Raider team placed second with 133 points, behind first place Alliance with 197. Hay Springs took third place with 59 points. Luke Holly won the 100 Meters and Rhys Dorcey placed second in the 200 Meters. Noah Canas placed second in the 400 Meters and Ben Monheiser won the 800 Meters. Sophomore Keian Kaiser placed second in the 110 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles while the 4x100 Meter Relay team of Rhys Dorcey, junior Owen Gillham, sophomore Alek Doty and junior Patrick McCartney placed second. Senior McGuire Rolls placed second in the Shot Put and senior Matthew Dach won the Discus. Freshman Kash Knobbe won the High Jump, with Alek Doty and Keian Kaiser placing second and third. Senior Luke Uhlir won the Pole Vault and junior Kanon Palmer placed second. Sidney is next scheduled to split squads and compete at the Kendra Roeder Invite at Pine Bluffs, WY, and the Don Bader Invite at Lexington on Friday, April 19.
