Privileged?

We hear a lot about "white privilege" from certain power hungry politicians who are not afraid of producing division in our nation. I know that I'm treading a narrow and dangerous path in writing this article. All I ask is that you stick with me until you get to the conclusion...

According to some politicians and radial left pot stirrers if you are a certain skin color and have a nice home and car you are automatically labels as "privileged." I beg to differ with them.

Yes, there are people (of various races and colors) who have a lot more than I and most Americans have. They have bigger and fancier homes. They have more expensive cars, clothing, jewelry and vacation in ritzier places around the world than 99% of us do. Some of these individuals worked hard to get where they are, and some inherited their wealth. Big deal.

Neither I nor my wife inherited much of anything of monetary value when our parents died. After the estates' bills were paid we were left with enough money to pay for our trip to the coast for the funerals. The material items such as houses, cars, furniture, etc. in both cases did not amount to much. After our parents' kids selected what they wanted as memorabilia the rest, along with property was either sold or auctioned off. After the proceeds were used to pay legal fees, auctioneers, etc., etc. the remainder was divided amongst us kids, There was not much received by any of us... just a bit more than we spent in travel expenses.

Our parents, her's and mine, all worked hard for most of their lives just to make ends meet. Dorothy and I spent most of our working years doing the same. Fortunately for us our last couple of employers insisted on us putting a percentage of our pay into 401k and similar investments. Which was a good thing because there was enough to pay for Dorothy's last medical and funeral expenses. If all goes well that will be the situation when I die. Time will tell... it depends on what our so-called representatives in Washington D.C. do to the rest of us.

My point is this: the use of deliberatively slanted terminology that is so prevalent by most of today's liberal news media and politicians should be thrown into the garbage pile where it belongs.

The vast number of Americans of all races, creeds and colors have worked hard and long to get to where they are now. The American promise is not a free pot of gold from the government. The promise is: work hard and be rewarded accordingly. Again, the reward is based on skill, education, dedication and other factors that cannot, and should not, be legislated by any level of government.

If we turn to national federal and state government bodies to set the standards of "who gets what" based on any thing other than individual ability then America will have become a communistic country.

I was raised to view every one as an individual and give that person what ever respect and treatment they deserve, and to receive the same treatment from them. Skin color, racial background, individual levels of education, how much or how little money they have, or any other artificial standard should have no impact on the way we treat or view any other human being. We are all created by the same God.

What you and I do with our lives is up to you and I. Period. Do the best you can. This doesn't mean victory every time. But over time it gives you and I our best chance of improving our lives and the futures of our children. And, we don't need a socialistic government to regulate our future – unless you enjoy being a slave.
